Frequently Asked Questions
How do lessons work?
All lessons begin with a dry land safety speech and basic technique training. Once all riders have passed the dry land portion of the lesson, the instructor will accompany each rider individually in the water, with the student riding one board and the instructor riding a separate board. Using communication headsets, the students will be guided through basic riding and bailing techniques. Once all riders have achieved basic proficiency alongside the instructor, the rest of the session will focus on your riding skills.
Where do lessons take place?
Our primary launch location is at Fisherman’s Cove in Laguna Beach, CA, the town in which we operate our main shop.
What do I need to bring?
Bring personal swimwear, wetsuits, and towels. We provide wetsuit rentals at a $10 charge. We also recommend bringing sunscreen and water. We will provide helmets, lifejackets, and 2-way radio headsets for every lesson, along with the eFoil boards themselves.
Is there a minimum age?
There is no minimum age required. Any riders under 18 will require a parent or legal guardian to sign the liability waiver and to attend the entirety of the lesson.
Where do you get your boards?
Lift Foils manufactures and provides our entire inventory of boards.
How do your boards work?
Different eFoil manufacturers have varying specifications on how to use their boards. All of our boards are provided by Lift, so we can answer this question based on Lift boards specifically, but in regards to any other company, including Fliteboard and Waydoo, please check their respective websites for more information (we’ve attached links).
In any case, a standard foil board is composed of the main body you stand on, a mast that allows you to rise out of the water, and a wing that maintains your lift and balance. In the case of eFoils, a propellor and remote control are used to throttle you consistently forward, and it also holds internal electronics that are not present in a standard foil.
Lift eFoil boards have power adjustment settings that adjust on a scale of 1-15, 1 being the lowest power setting and 15 being the highest. When operating at its highest setting, the board can hit speeds up to 30 mph. The battery life holds for approximately one hour, and the distance covered could total about 15 miles by the time one’s session is complete.

Will I be able to learn to ride an eFoil on my first lesson?
For the majority of our clients, yes, you will be able to ride “on foil” (board out of the water) during your very first lesson, at least for a short amount of time.
What if the ocean conditions are rough or the weather is bad?
We want to provide the best experience possible, and if the ocean conditions or weather will adversely affect your eFoil experience, we will gladly allow a reschedule without a penalty, even on the same day as your booking. These conditions include winds above 10 mph, rain, and exceptionally large surf. They do not include cold air or ocean temperatures.
For more information on the local surf forecast, check out the Orange County page on Surfline.com. Surfline utilizes data from up to 16 days in advance to predict the coming conditions.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
No refunds for cancellations within 48 hours of your reservation.
Cancel over 48 hours in advance of your lesson start-time for a full refund*.
Reschedule 24 hours in advance of your lesson for a 50% cost-of-lesson penalty.
*NOTE ON REFUNDS: a full refund does not include the processing fee Square charges us (this is a new Square policy as of March 2023 which we believe to be unfair, and are currently searching for a better payment solution). We suggest booking without pre-paying for your lesson to avoid the possibility of having to pay this processing fee.
